INTRODUCING EVERYTHING YORUBA WITH AYINKE

You will not believe how excited I am to start this journey. Rewind to 2017, I started my first blog as Chantell but somehow stopped writing and I forgot about it; the joy to pick up from where I stopped and start afresh (lol, I decided not to pour my new wine inside an old wineskin). 

The story behind this blog is associated with my profession as a Lawyer with focus on Intellectual Property Law. The concept of Intellectual Property relates to the fact that certain products of human intellect should be afforded the same protective rights that apply to physical property, which are called tangible assets. Cultural Heritage is an expression of the ways of living developed by a community and passed on from generation to generation, including customs, practices, places, objects, artistic expressions and values. Cultural Heritage is often expressed as either Tangible or Intangible Cultural Heritage, the intellectual property deals with the intangible cultural heritage. 

The Intangible cultural Heritage encompasses the practices, representations, expressions, knowledge, skills - as well as the instruments, objects, artefacts and the cultural spaces associated therewith - that communities, groups and in some cases individuals recognize as part of their cultural heritage. This can be manifested through oral traditions and expressions, including language as a vehicle of the intangible cultural heritage, performing arts, social practices, rituals and festive events; knowledge and practices concerning nature and the universe; traditional craftmanship amongst others.
